Neurosurgery

What is Neurosurgery?

Neurosurgery is a branch of surgery that deals with the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Neurosurgeons treat neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and stroke.

When a patient needs to undergo surgery for the treatment of a condition affecting the brain or spinal cord, they will have an operation called neurosurgery. Patients may have aneurysms or tumors that need to be removed surgically to prevent them from rupturing and potentially shutting down vital parts of their body.

During this Procedure, neurosurgeons often operate using microscopes and other technologies to see inside a patient's body while they operate on them.

What is a Neurosurgeon?

Neurosurgeons are surgical specialists who perform complicated brain and spine surgery. Neurosurgeons are one of the most specialized medical doctors.

A neurosurgeon performs operations on the brain, spinal cord, and other parts of the nervous system. It is also a surgeon who operates on the nervous system which includes all organs that control everything from thinking to feeling to moving. Neurosurgeons may have additional training in certain areas of the central nervous system such as cerebrovascular surgery (which deals with problems in the blood vessels around the brain), neuroradiology (use of imaging techniques to diagnose diseases of the central nervous system), or pediatric neurology.
